Cobham Front Drive
Completed in Spring 2021. This driveway was in need of a long overdue refurbishment.

The evergreen shrubs and large conifer obscured a multistem Amelanchier tree, and were an oppressive gloomy presence. The existing gravel frequently migrated down the drive onto the road, the gates were broken, lighting inadequate, and the planting beds dated and in need of replanting.

The conifer and evergreen hedging were removed along with the planting bed along the fence line. The planting bed in front of the garage was pushed back, opening up the space, providing more room for parking, and making the entrance far more inviting.
Stable drive was laid and larger aggregate put down with granite setts to define the area and stop the gravel from spilling onto the road.

A new dry stone retaining wall was built using the existing stone that was on site. Oak posts frame the entrance. The old fencing was removed and a beech hedge planted with three Prunus x subhirtella 'Autumnalis' (Rosebud cherry ‘Autumnalis') to add height, interest and pretty blossom through the winter months. A multi stem Prunus serrula provides a year round focal point. Finally a combination of up/down lights, spike and flood lights ensure that the entrance is well lit at night and is truly welcoming.
